DELI ANNOUNCES ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE DESIGNED TO HELP FAMILIES SAVE THEIR HOMES AND BUSINESSES. ”YES WE CAN”

JANUARY 20, 2010, FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Ron Asmar is one Farmington Hills restaurateur who isn’t looking to boost his own bank account. He’s looking to boost the Government’s bank account. And along with filling that coffer, he’ll also fill plenty of stomachs, too. That’s because starting January 20, 2010, 50% of all the proceeds from his new “Obama Mile High Stuffwich sandwich are going directly to the U.S. Treasury c/o The White House. Sound crazy? Probably. Desperate? You bet. Serious? Without question.

As our country faces severe Economic Crisis “I just can’t stand by and watch everything we’ve built waste away,” said Asmar, owner of Vineyards Café & Catering in Farmington Hills, Michigan. “Better service, coupons, ads, freebies – nothing is working right now for anyone. So what’s left is to fix the problem ourselves or go bust,” he said.

At the end of each month, Asmar plans to tally all the proceeds from his humongous variation on a classic Reubensandwich and mail a check to the U.S. Treasury with the notation, “To Help People Keep Their Homes & Businesses” written in the memo space.

Take away the anger over whether the federal monies were mismanaged, take out the war factors and forget Wall Street for a moment. Now, just how much do you love your country and more importantly, your fellow man or woman?” Asmar asks.

“I want to show the entire world what this country is made of and what real Americans do when the chips are down.”

The “Obama Mile High Stuffwich” is basically an oversized Reuben sandwich on a grilled onion roll with one delicious addition: a giant, crispy potato pancake between the layers of corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Weighing nearly a pound, the unique sandwich sells for $10.95 and is served with a kosher dill pickle. Asmar hopes that $5.50 from each Obama Mile High Stuffwich will make its way back to the Treasury for a total of around $5,000 a month.

“I know I’m just one businessman and my contribution probably won’t show up on anyone’s balance sheet. But it is something. And if other businesses join me in this giving-back endeavor, it could be something big,” Asmar explained. “What I’d really love to see is all Americans putting their hands and their hearts together to help President Obama turn this country around.”

Vineyards Café & Catering, located on Northwestern Highway in Farmington Hills, has been serving Metro Detroiters for almost 25 years. It features a complete, full-service deli, Shirlee Bloom’s kosher foods, Nibbles & Nuts gift trays and baskets; and Maggie’s Gourmet Chocolates.
